Life lesson #1

My husband convinced me to take in a cat that has been in our yard for a few months now. I think "technically" she belongs to a neighbor, but she was out practically 24/7 living under our porch or bench.

The last thing I really wanted in my life was another responsibility, but I do like this cat and it needed to be rescued.

Not only did she live with obvious hard drug dealers a few houses down, she is in heat, has huge mats in her fur combined with thorns in her tail and elsewhere. She is skittish and scared and she was very hungry and thirsty all the time.

My guess is these assholes wanted to make quick and "easy" money breeding her. She is what is known as a Ragdoll cat. Very very pretty long haired and sweet. They probably got her from a shelter, and thought they could let her out and then take her babies away to make quick cash.

It was horrible watching her fight with other cats and be so hungry and scared all the time. So, now she lives here.

We are calling her Shiloh and aside from being in heat (which I would much prefer to her being pregnant) she is adjusting well. We are working slowly to get all that crap out of her fur, feeding her on a regular schedule, trying to help her adjust.

Got a kennel on order, so next week we will make an appointment at the vet down the street for rabies vac and license. Then she will be officially ours and I can stop being paranoid the scary drug dealers (possibly drug manufacturers) down the street will try to take her back.

Next she will need to be spayed. Not fun, but necessary.

So, so much money in all the kitty food and toys and vet visits, etc. So, so much more than we have. Hello Mr. Credit card.

But, it was the right thing to do. She wanted help. She came into our house a few times in the past, but we had to shoo her out. Such a sweet kitty shouldn't have to turn into another urban statistic of sadistic capitalistic assholes.

Guess we have a habit of stealing things that people leave outside. This ain't fucking Mayberry, and you don't deserve things you can't take care of.

Call that life lesson #1.
