not everyone can carry the weight of the world.

A small village in China was suffering a devastating drought. Crops were suffering, people were suffering. They sent to for the shaman to come and heal their village.

The shaman arrived, and isolated herself in a cabin away from the rest of the villagers. For over one month the shaman remained isolated in her cabin. She fasted and meditated and spoke to no one.

One day, it began to rain. The shaman emerged from her cabin and said her work was done. She had meditated on the imbalance in the village, the drought, and through this meditation, she worked on brining her own life force into balance, thereby healing the village and restoring order.

The shaman is so powerful, that all it takes is one movement toward balance for the entire tribe to be healed. One vision, and all of the land will see clearly. One moment of enlightenment, and everyone is free.

It is a great burden and a great honor to be the one to restore the balance.

What would happen if the shamans burden outweighed her obligation to do what was right? What would happen if the greater good became less important than her own gratification?
